So this is the first time we're putting our face out on @greenandbeyondmag through an official post. Hi, this is Maesha (@maeshahaha) and Shoummo (@ahmedshoummo). And yes, this is how we look, pretty brown. But that's not supposed to be an issue, because we work in the climate movement, right? Wrong. We left our jobs and careers to do this, because it's what we're passionate about. Being from one of the most climate vulnerable countries in the world, we have witnessed the disastrous brunt of the climate crisis very closely. And so as storytellers ourselves, we wanted to share our perspective and amplify diverse climate narratives from around the world.Jumping into the climate movement initially felt amazing. Just like us, everyone was learning, sharing, and excited to collaborate. But that enthusiasm dimmed a bit for some when they saw us or found out who we are. We have faced prejudice, microaggressions, and even hypocrisy – folks who talk equity and equality but expect creatives to work for free.Despite the disappointment, we haven't given up hope. We've made some incredible friends – genuine people who understand. Here's the key takeaway: the climate movement NEEDS all voices, especially those who are the most impacted while they didn't have anything to do with it. If you believe in building a truly inclusive movement where everyone is valued, then we welcome you with open arms!We've experienced both the good, the bad, and the ugly. But the good – the genuine connections, the awesome collaborations – that's what keeps us going. So, if you're someone in the movement who's tired of people caring more about your background than your potential, or if you're simply someone who wants to be part of something real, something that fights for a better future for everyone, then let's connect!
